Dr. Shahsavari holds join appointments between the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the Department of Materials Science and NanoEngieering at Rice University. His research focuses on developing a multi-scale materials modeling approach followed by advanced synthesis and high-level characterizations to study key functional behavior of complex materials, which are critical to the infrastructure underlying the science and technology enterprises of our society. Dr. Shahsavari has developed a broad foundation of knowledge and experience in engineering, mechanics, materials, and modelings. Prior to joining Rice University, he completed his Ph.D at MIT and prior to that, he was a project engineer for a Canadian Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management firm in Alberta. He is an associate member of American Concrete Institute (ACI Technical Committee Material Science of Concrete) and American Ceramic Society, and a member of American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Advances in Cement Based Materials (ACBM), and International Association for Life-Cycle Civil Engineering (IALCCE).
